If you are not sure about how many gallons of water are in your pond, you can use their calculator and when you have a full pond cleanout done try this: Get your smartphone ready to time this. Get a 5-gallon bucket and time how long it takes to fill it up from the hose. Then, time how long it takes to completely fill up the pond. When the pond is full enough to run the pump, continue to run the hose when the pump is plugged in until it comes up to the right level.
For instance, let’s say it takes 45 seconds to fill up a 5-gallon bucket. that is 6.6 gallons per minute. 6.6 x 60 minutes is 396 gallons per hour. If it then took 5 1/2 hours to fill the pond, then you know you have 2,178 gallons in your pond.
Personally, I think using this calculator is easier.
