Fun Things You Can Feed Your fish (koi and goldfish)

A Diet with Variety - How to feed your fish new things

Feeding your fish, whether koi or goldfish, a varied diet can be a great way to keep them healthy and happy. In addition to regular fish food, you can offer them other options.

How about some high protein? Try:

small cocktail shrimp cut up to small pieces (cooked)

  firmly scrambled eggs

Healthy and Happy Fish

Did you know that fish can also enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables?  YES! Koi have  inner fish teeth that are a bit behind what we would consider their lips.

Here is a list of fruits that are safe for  fish, both koi and goldfish:

blueberries

  peas

watermelon (yes they LOVE IT!) put a 1/2 circle slice of it in

  cut up strawberries

  cooked and peeled apple slices

How about a thin slice of zucchini?

These occasional treats for your fish should be rinsed thoroughly before feeding.  Pesticides could be lurking and be very harmful to the fish.

It’s important to remove any uneaten food after a couple of hours to maintain water quality.

Patience when feeding fish new foods

Be patient when you first offer new foods. The fish might take some time to get used to them.  Often within a few minutes they are going crazy over watermelon!

What foods to AVOID feeding the fish

When you feed your fish, avoid grains or citrus, as these can be harmful.

By diversifying their diet, you can provide your fish with the nutrients they need while keeping their meals interesting.  Did you know fish do most of their growing the first 3 years of their lives?

* This blog was NOT written by AI.  In fact, a big thank you to Karen.  She brainstormed with me and shared foods she has fed her fish.

This was written by me.  I am not a professional writer, I am a pond person.  Therefore, if you see a typo, please forgive me (but don’t tell me, it will just make me feel bad)!

*No koi were harmed in the making of this content.
